چکیده

Diabetes is often associated with psychological complications such as anxiety. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of pyrrolidine dithiocarbamate on anxiety of streptozotocin-induced diabetic mouse using the open field and the elevated plus maze tests. Confirmed diabetic mice (>16.7 mM/l of blood glucose) were treated with pyrrolidine dithiocarbamate or 0.9% saline for 10 w. After pyrrolidine dithiocarbamate treatment, mice showed a higher percent of time retention and entries in open arms than the diabetic group in the elevated plus maze. However, there were no differences between total distance and average speed in both groups in the open field test. In conclusion, pyrrolidine dithiocarbamate treatment in diabetic mice exerted anxiolytic-like effects. The present study might be suggestive of a novel treatment approach to diabetic anxiety.

Inhibition of nuclear factor-κB signal by pyrrolidine dithiocarbamate alleviates lipopolysaccharide-induced acute lung injury

This study mainly studied the effect of inhibition of nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB) signal by pyrrolidine dithiocarbamate (PDTC) on lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced inflammatory response, oxidative stress, and mitochondrial dysfunction in a murine acute lung injury model. The results showed that LPS exposure activated NF-κB and its upstream proteins and caused lung inflammation, oxidative stress, a...

Pyrrolidine dithiocarbamate ameliorates endothelial dysfunction in thoracic aorta of diabetic rats by preserving vascular DDAH activity

OBJECTIVE Endothelial dysfunction plays a pivotal role in the development of diabetic cardiovascular complications. Accumulation of endogenous nitric oxide synthase (NOS) inhibitor asymmetric dimethylarginine (ADMA) and inhibition of dimethylarginine dimethylaminohydrolase (DDAH) activity have been involved in diabetic endothelial dysfunction. This study was to investigate the effect of pyrroli...

Protective effect of the nuclear factor kappa B inhibitor pyrrolidine dithiocarbamate in lung injury in rats with streptozotocin-induced diabetes.

BACKGROUND Diabetes mellitus (DM) causes debilitating complications and, as a result, diabetics frequently require intensive care. Although lungs are not thought to be affected primarily by DM, an increasing number of studies indicate physiological and structural abnormalities in diabetic lungs. OBJECTIVES Pyrrolidine dithiocarbamate (PDTC) is a metal chelator and a potent inhibitor of NF-kap...

Pyrrolidine Dithiocarbamate Inhibits Nuclear Factor κB and Toll-Like Receptor 4 Expression in Rats with Acute Necrotizing Pancreatitis

BACKGROUND/AIMS To investigate the expression of Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) in the pancreases of rats with acute necrotizing pancreatitis (ANP) and any changes upon treatment with pyrrolidine dithiocarbamate (PDTC), an inhibitor of nuclear factor κB (NF-κB), as well as to determine the relationship between TLR4 and NF-κB in ANP pathogenesis. METHODS A total of 72 SD rats were randomly divide...

Role of FAM18B in diabetic retinopathy

PURPOSE Genome-wide association studies have suggested an association between a previously uncharacterized gene, FAM18B, and diabetic retinopathy. This study explores the role of FAM18B in diabetic retinopathy. An improved understanding of FAM18B could yield important insights into the pathogenesis of this sight-threatening complication of diabetes mellitus. METHODS Postmortem human eyes were...
